Yohji Yamamoto

Born in Tokyo 1943, it was only after completing a law degree that Yohji teamed up with his mother - a seamstress, to create a series of collections that would become internationally renowned. His idiosyncratic style, which comprised of his alternative use of fabric, over-sized and un-finished design choices, were part of a rebellious need to challenge traditional notions at the time and I believe, it was this way of designing that spurred the likes of McQueen and Westwood.
